What is the secret to becoming cool? Have you ever wondered that while looking at guys who do not seem especially handsome or are definitely not rich but have a multitude of women at their beck and call? Actually, there really isn’t any secret. It just takes a little self assessment, a little adjustment and some practice. I’m sure you will be cool in no time.
Don’t try to be cool…stand out!
You know becoming cool is not exclusively related to having loads of money or just having movie-star good looks (though having both can’t hurt either). It is also not about having the loudest voice in the room or having the most unbendable opinions about matters. It isn’t about always confirming to the standards and becoming afraid to stand out.
It’s cool to be confident
Becoming cool generally means to be confident. If you are comfortable in your own skin, it is easy for people to be attracted to you. Being confident means you have mastered yourself – you know that you have weaknesses but you also know that you have strengths that far outweigh those weaknesses.
However, there is a fine line between confidence and arrogance. Make sure you know the difference. Here are other tips on becoming cool:
Be more – Stop being a Joe in a sea of Joes and put a little dimension to your persona. Make a little self-assessment and find out what you lack and what interests you. Pursue those interests with a passion. Having hobbies and gaining skills are what will set you apart from the others. This will also give you new venues for meeting people.
Be independent – You do not need your posse in becoming cool and you do not need to always seek other people’s approval before doing something. Yes, that includes ordering in a bar too. “I’ll have what the others are having” means you cannot decide for yourself and always relying on other people is a big turn-off. Being alone should not daunt you.
Be funny –Laughing releases endorphins and makes people feel good. It also means that you do not take life too seriously so being around you is not all gloom and doom.
Be real – Pretentiousness can easily be detected. Stop acting like Mr. Perfect because it is still “acting”. Despite your efforts, women will still know that you are only playing a role and will then assume that you must be trying to hide something.
Be a gentleman – Do not forget your manners. Although we may be living in a very modern age, the old world ways of opening doors for women, allowing women to sit first before doing so and observing proper language are still highly appreciated. Chivalry is not dead, it has just become rare.
Be informed – This does not only cover keeping abreast with what’s happening in the world (which makes for good conversation). It also means knowing where the cool places are and how to get there.
Now you know how to be cool. Remember though that becoming cool does not happen overnight, so go ahead and start practicing!
